As my first monthly book pick and my first blog post, I could do worse. I could, you know, talk about that salon down the street, that, oh my god, just opened and they do the best haircuts in the world . But this book deserves it-- this book is awesome and I want you all to read it. Let me explain why:
The premise of the book is that only certain people can see certain colors, and some people see those colors more than others. The colors that you can see and the amount you can see them with influences your social standing.
This book is subtle, it's funny, it's sci-fi-but-not-really-but-it's-not-really-anything-else-either. It falls into its own category. Shades of Grey follows a young Red and the repercussions of his considering ways to improve queueing -- warning, it enters advanced queueing theory -- and how this one little Rule break leads him on a rough-and-tumble ride. I hate giving away spoilers, so I won't. But this is a highly recommended read, and it's also my book of the month: Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde (yes, that's his real name). Go pick it up at your library or local bookstore.

Oh and a quick note: Usually these will be posted on the first of every month, but I'm using it to kickstart everything off.
